|PWRHCFA (version 8.2.a)
Purpose is to provide HCFA (Health Care Financing Administration) with information about Medicare beneficiaries? group health plan coverage. This law requires the IRS, the Social Security Administration and the Health Care Financing Administration to share information that the agency has about whether Medicare beneficiaries or their spouses are working. The process for sharing this information is called IRS/SSA/HCFA Data Match. The purpose of the Data Match is to identify situations where another payer may be primary to Medicare.
OUS receives an electronic media questionnaire (ASCII on CD) file containing employee names, SSN, worker name, and the earliest eligibility date for each worker for whom a request for information is being made. This file is modified once received by removing the termination record (last line and begins with T) and inserting two records at the beginning:
- A beginning date (YYYYMMDD) record of the data to be extracted;
- An ending date (YYYYMMDD) record of the data to be extracted.
The new filename becomes hcfa.txt and is read by PWRHCFA.
Each institution runs this program in their production instance and sends the output file (see below) via FTP back to OUS for further processing.
Additional programs run by OUS for this process are:
