GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS The LOCKSMITH installs, maintains and repairs lock and key systems and related door hardware in a State institution. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single classification and not currently part of a series of classes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS Employees in this class are in daily in-person contact with agency personnel and students, housing personnel and campus faculty regarding key matters, and weekly in-person contact with carpenters regarding installation of locking devices. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Employees in this class receive general supervision from a locksmith supervisor. Assignments are received daily and work is reviewed for professional quality and timely completion. Employees in this class use agency policies, safety rules and locksmith technical manuals to complete their work. State and Federal regulations must also be followed concerning access to key control of radioactive areas. GENERAL INFORMATION Positions are found in central and remote locations throughout State government (e.g., general government agencies, human or natural resource agencies, correctional, mental health, or higher education institutions, hospitals, etc.). They require the willingness to work within the environment associated with the position's location. They require the willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather. They require the willingness to work in an environment containing dust, odor, and high levels of noise. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
