GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS The BOAT OPERATOR maintains and operates an oceanographic research boat of less than 65 feet to meet scheduled requirements for scientific research. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single classification and not currently part of a series of classes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS Employees in this class have daily contact with scientific staff and crew at sea performing experiments. Work is assigned and performed on the boat or while in port. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Employees in this class receive general supervision from the Port Engineer daily. Work is evaluated for efficiency and effectiveness by reports from participating scientists and direct observation of the boat's condition. Operation of the boat and equipment must comply with established navigational and safety procedures. GENERAL INFORMATION Positions in this class are found on ships conducting research at sea for extended periods of time. They require the willingness to work within the environment associated with the position's location. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
