GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

The LIMITED ENERGY ELECTRICIAN installs, alters, maintains, and repairs limited energy electrical cables.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This is a single classification and not currently part of a series of classes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Installation and Moves. Typical tasks: determines equipment, tools, and supplies needed for installation or move; places cable in walls, through walls, along walls, through attics and crawl spaces, under and between floors; determines and installs proper electrical devices for cable support and entry to room; determines and installs proper electronic cable termination for use with device intended.
2. Repairs and Maintenance. Typical tasks: analyzes or assists other electronic or audiovisual technician in identifying and isolating equipment problems; determines location and cause of cable damage or cable termination damage; replaces or repairs damaged cable or device; reattaches loose cables and/or equipment to walls or supports.
3. Cost Estimates. Typical tasks: determines type and amount of cable, electrical equipment, and cable route from source to end based on work order description; estimates labor; prepares customer cost estimate.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

Employees in this class have regular in-person and telephone contact with all levels of agency staff to discuss communication needs and changes.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Employees in this class receive general supervision from an administrative superior. Work is assigned through work order slips and verbal discussion. Review of work includes on-site reviews of progress and quality of work and final inspection of work at the time of completion of a job.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Positions require the willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather and to walk, stand, and work while bending and stooping for extended periods. They require the willingness to work from ladders, scaffolds, and other above-ground locations or within confined spaces such as ceiling crawl spaces. They require the willingness to lift heavy objects for short periods of time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid limited energy electrician's license issued by the appropriate State agency.
