GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS The RETAIL STORE ASSISTANT oversees activities of a retail store operation which sells items such as candy, pop, popcorn, greeting cards, school supplies, magazines, and toiletries. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a single classification and not currently part of a series of classes. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS Employees in this class have constant, daily, in person contact with students, faculty, staff, and the public who purchase items from the store. Employees in this class have daily contact in person and by telephone with other agency departments to make cash deposits, invoice payments, or for purchasing. These employees have frequent contact in person and by telephone with vendors while placing orders for store supplies. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Employees in this class work under the general supervision of an administrative superior who assigns work verbally and occasionally, in writing. Work is reviewed through daily observation, through daily till reports, monthly inventory reports, and frequent informal meetings to insure tasks and procedures are done in a timely and efficient manner. Employees in this class must comply with State and agency cash handling procedures, store policies and procedures, inventory control guidelines, and State and agency purchasing guidelines. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Six months of experience in retail sales including cashier duties, stock display, and customer relations. |
