The NUTRITION EDUCATION COORDINATOR provides support for and monitors the daily work of the Nutrition Education Assistants under the direction of the Extension Home Economics Agent responsible for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This is a single classification and not currently part of a series of classes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Recruitment and Training. Typical tasks: teaches demonstration lessons to groups of eligible homemakers in order to recruit homemakers; coordinates recruitment of volunteers and Nutrition Education Assistants as teachers or leaders; assists in identifying and assembling materials for training of volunteers and staff; schedules time and space for training; assists in training and orienting volunteers and staff.
2. Staff Support. Typical tasks: assists the agent in monitoring and evaluation of the daily work of Nutrition Education Assistants including setting performance goals, checking on reports, reviewing the completeness and accuracy of Federal enrollment forms, daily logs, and time and mileage reports; assembles teaching material and supplies.
3. Promotion and Teaching. Typical tasks: assists in the development and distribution of promotional materials about the EFNEP program; contacts public and private agencies to explain the EFNEP Program with the goal of gaining client referrals; assigns agency referrals and reports progress to referral agency; teaches food related skills to volunteers and staff.
4. Records and Reports. Typical tasks: maintains record keeping systems for the program; corrects and completes computerized data relating to the program; contributes to and assembles program related reports; maintains an inventory of supplies necessary to the program; attends meetings and workshops to increase awareness and understanding of the program and its functions.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

Employees in this class have daily telephone and/or personal contact with Nutrition Education Assistants in order to observe and report the level of service being provided. They also explain EFNEP program and services to public and private agency personnel and answer questions concerning the program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Employees in this class receive general supervision from the Home Economics Extension Agent with responsibility for the EFNEP program, who reviews work for completeness and accuracy. General work assignments are defined in the lob description when the employee is hired, and lob descriptions are reviewed and updated annually. Employees in this class use agency policies and procedures and State and Federal EFNEP policies as guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience and/or training in a program providing social services. One year of college courses in nutrition may substitute for one year of the required experience.
